The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Starting Pitch with a Virtual Piano

1. Finding Your Vocal Scale (Shruti)

In Indian classical music, finding your "Sa" (root note) is the first step of your journey. Men usually sing around C, C#, or D. Women typically sing around G, G#, or A.

Open the Virtual Piano and press the middle C key. Sing the note. Is it too low? Move up to C# or D until you find a note that feels incredibly comfortable in the absolute middle of your voice. That is your scale!

2. Interval Ear Training

A great musician can hear the distance between two notes. Use the Virtual Piano to train your ear. Play a C, and then play a G (a perfect fifth). Listen to how those two notes sound together. Now close your eyes, play a random note, and try to sing a perfect fifth above it. Use the Virtual Piano to check if you were right.

3. Visualizing Chords for Guitarists

Guitarists often memorize chord shapes without understanding the notes inside them. The piano forces you to see the notes. Play a C Major chord (C, E, G) on the Virtual Piano. Seeing the physical distance between the keys will instantly help you understand chord construction.
