Contemporary Music Benchmark: Founded in the UK in 1991, Rockschool (RSL Awards) was the world's first graded exam board for contemporary rock, pop, and metal instruments. Recognized by Ofqual in England and accredited worldwide, RSL grades award full UCAS points for university admissions.
Why Students Love the Rockschool Pathway
While classical exams like ABRSM demand traditional sonatas and classical etudes, Rockschool lets students perform to real recorded professional backing tracks featuring authentic drums, bass, and rhythm sections.
- Electric & Acoustic Guitar: Play tracks inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, and John Mayer.
- Pop & Rock Vocals: Learn belt and mix technique on songs by Adele, Bruno Mars, Queen, Beyonce, and Stevie Wonder.
- Real-World Musical Skills: Emphasizes improvising over chord charts, reading lead sheets, and groove pocket rather than purely academic theory.
